May 2014 update

Posted on 29 May 2014

As our launch month draws to a close it’s time to look back on a hectic few weeks and review a major milestone in the Praxis project.

The launch relied entirely on social media to spread the word. On the 1st May the APM carried a blog entitled “Knowledge, method, competence and maturity – can we achieve the holy grail?” This generated a lot of interest and continues to do so, even though it is no longer on the APM’s home page.

Two project management news sites strongly featured the launch. Thanks to David Pells of PM World Journal and Paul Naybour of Project Accelerator. Their news items were picked up by several other news and blog sites around the world.

On the same day we placed discussion entries into various LinkedIn groups. Naturally, a few discussion responses were along the lines of “we already have plenty of published guides, why do we need another one?”

A fair point if Praxis was from the same mould as other guides.  In response we explained that none of the other guides covered all the four areas included in Praxis and no combination of guides was as integrated or free). This seemed to quell any concerns.

The vast majority of responses have been very positive and have led to conversations about translations and partnerships with complementary organisations. Hopefully more about this in future updates.

One message that came across was that people would like more options for interacting with the framework. Our ‘Get involved’ page generated a lot of contacts but people felt something more dynamic and visible was required.

With that in mind, towards the end of the month we did two things. Firstly, we set up a LinkedIn group dedicated to Praxis that will act as a forum to debate broad issues around P3 management. Secondly, we added a feature that allows visitors to comment on individual pages.

Both means of getting feedback will be used as a source of updates to the framework in the interests of fulfilling our intention to be ‘community driven’.

The initial interest in Praxis has resulted in over 1,000 visitors from 82 countries. No doubt the visitor numbers will settle down next month and the hard work of building a regular audience will begin. We have some ideas to raise the profile but as ever we depend most of all on our visitors to spread the word, so tell your friends and post ideas and comments to our pages.
