The first generation of Praxis Framework introduced the idea that projects, programmes and portfolios are points on a continuum of scope rather than discrete, mutually exclusive entities. The purpose of the second generation of the framework is to apply the same principle to the area of uncertainty and agility. These ideas are combined in the Praxis Delivery Model.
This is not simply an academic exercise, it has very practical benefits.
The current project delivery landscape is highly fragmented. In addition to the pigeon-holing of methods and techniques into either project, programme or portfolio, there is further separation into Agile or Waterfall/Traditional. In the real world, these distinctions do not apply. Any given unique initiative will require a combination of practices. A fully rounded manager understands all the available practices so that they can respond to their current context.
The second iteration of Praxis aims to continue breaking down artificial distinctions so that what is best described as ‘Project delivery’ (encompassing all of the above) is seen holistically rather than as a collection of mutually exclusive components.
During 2025, pages within the framework are being updated incrementally. If a topic has been updated you will see a note at the top of the page and will be able to access the earlier version via the ‘History’ button. The work will start with English pages.
